Kathy Andrews Interiors received Casa de Esperanza’s Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award in April 2008 at the Building Hope for Children gala.
Kathy Andrews Interiors (KAI) is a Houston based interior design firm. Fortunately for Casa de Esperanza, KAI’s owner, Kathy Andrews Kimbrough is very familiar with the organization through her friendship with Capital Campaign Director, Kathy O’Neil. And, KAI also provides interior design services to David Weekley Homes, who built at cost all of the ten new homes for children in crisis. Thus, it was a natural fit for Kathy Andrews and her team of designers to volunteer to work on the Casa de Esperanza new neighborhood project.
Meetings with Kathy and her design staff were held early in the project to familiarize them with Casa de Esperanza and the furnishing requirements. The designers were quick to understand our basic needs of flexibility and durability. They busily went to work selecting paint colors, lighting and hardware for the homes. Hope Flynn, of KAI said that the designers were honored to have an opportunity to be a part of this worthwhile project.
After interior selections the next task at hand for the designers was to select the furnishings for the houses. KAI designers worked closely with the Casa staff, including house parents to determine the furniture needs. They selected the furniture, bedding, towels, sheets and accessories for the homes. The results were more beautiful than anyone could have imagined, and each of the ten houses is unique.
Casa de Esperanza staff enjoyed seeing the faces of the children when they entered their new homes with coordinated furnishings. After years of donated furnishings this was a great way to open the new neighborhood.
Casa de Esperanza de los Ninos, Inc. is a local non-profit agency that provides a safe place for infants and young children in crisis due to abuse, neglect or the effects of HIV. Casa de Esperanza provides residential, medical and psychological care according to the needs of each child. Counseling is also available to the parents in appropriate situations.
Because Casa de Esperanza does not charge for any of its services, the population it serves is indigent, and it does not receive government or United Way funding, it is dependent on the generosity of the community for support.
