Samuel Abraham is President of Abraham’s Oriental Rugs, the premier Oriental rug dealer of Houston, T.X.

Now in its third decade of business, Abraham’s exclusive imported rug business now boasts a clientele that reads like a White House guest list, including former President Gerald Ford, former New York Senator James Buckley and Texas legends such as John Connally and Oveta Culp Hobby.  Abraham’s rugs grace Houston landmarks such as the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.

Samuel is routinely quoted in the media for his expertise of oriental rugs and their production and authenticity.  He has been sited in publications such as the Houston Chronicle, Houston Business Journal, Houston House and Home, and on radio for BizRadio 1320.

No stranger to community involvement, Samuel is active on the board of trustees for the Houston Grand Opera and the University of Texas, as well as occupying a seat on the boards of directors for the University of Houston Alumni Organization, India Culture Center (where he has served as past chairman) and the Moore’s School of Music at the University of Houston.  Recently, in September 2006, Samuel and Omana, his wife, was host to the Texas Asia Society Tiger Ball reception, held at the Abraham’s Decorative Center showroom.

Samuel received his Bachelor’s degree in business from Kerala State University in 1968, followed by his law degree from Agra University.  After arriving in the United States in 1974 Samuel continued his education with a M.B.A. from Houston Baptist University and a second law degree from the University of Houston Law Center.  He practiced law for the Houston-base firm Givens & Deem until the sideline business he had begun with Omana, Abraham’s Oriental Rugs, began to grow.  In 1976, the first retail space was opened and 1980 saw the birth of their wholesale operation and showroom in Houston’s prestigious Decorative Center.  They now have 2 locations: near the Galleria at Post Oak Boulevard and Westheimer and the Decorative Center at Woodway and Sage.
